Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra
When Frank Sinatra Visited the Forty Acres
Before he was a world-famous crooner, Frank Sinatra was a backup
singer in Gregory Gym.
Along with legendary jazz musician Tommy Dorsey and a group of more
than 20 other entertainers, Sinatra performed during a Saturday night
dance for students in March of 1942. At the time, the "All
University Dances" were held in Gregory Gym each Saturday night
during the academic year.

Pictured here, a contract shows how Dorsey's band was paid $2,500 for
the performance. While Dorsey's signed the contract, Sinatra's name
is typed at the bottom of the contract's back page, where he's listed
as a "vocalist" with other singers.
