Granting her final request, a Hollywood press agent (MacMurray) brings the dead
body of an actress Olga Treskovna (Valli), who died after making her first and
only film, back to her hometown for burial. To arouse public interest, and to
get the reluctant studio head to release the film, he asks all the local
churches to ring their bells for three days. Sinatra plays Father Paul the
priest of the smaller and poorer Polish St. Michael's church where Olga's body
is to buried in accordance with Olga's wishes.

            note: On March 18, 1948, Sinatra recorded a message that was played
on KYW radio in Philadelphia. He talked about the wonderful edifice dedicated
to four very brave men: Chapelof the Four Chaplains - located in Philly. The
four men sacrificed their lives during the war so others could be saved on a
sinking ship . They were from different religions but represented the great
religious unity during the war. Frank wondered how that sense of unity could be
maintained inpeace time. He asked the radio audience to send in their answers
to "Miracle Of The Bells" inPhiladelphia. A distinguished panel would choose
the 100 best entries. They winners would attend ofa private showing of the film
at the KYW Auditorium. The producer of the film, Jesse Lasky, and stars from
the film, including Mr. Sinatra, would be attending. Frank also ask the
listeners to en-close, in their letters, a contribution to the chapel.*
         During the filming of "Miracle Of The Bells," a remarkable moment
occurred. A woman,who did not speak any English, spotted Frank in his priestly
outfit. She walked over, bent in front ofhim and kissed his ring. Frank did not
wish to embarrass her and never let her know he was not amember of the cloth. *
