Ed O'Brien notes:
What a show! Flag day 1944 and Frank, Lana, Jerry Lester, Axel, Vimms
Vocalist and Truman Bradley are
broadcasting live from Birmingham General Hospital in Van Nuys, California.
The audience is made up of servicemen and women. Frank opens with "Come Out,
Come Out Wherever
You Are" and then does a comedy skit with Lester. Frank mentions that Father's
Day is coming up next
Sunday and sings "Nancy" for all the dads with little girls. The gang does a
skit on visiting Palm Springs
and scouting a movie location. Frank announces that Axel has suggested he sing
a brand new song never
before done on radio. He sings "As Long As There's Music" from "Step Lively."
He then does a romantic
scene with Lana and sings "Dancing in the Dark."
Frank thanks the soldiers and tells his radio audience to buy Victory Bonds
and to tune in when the show
returns on 8/16. He closes with "Put Your Dreams Away." A wonderful artifact
from the war years.
