note: Tony gave me an 8 x 10 copy of this photo. His wife Mitzi was the
photographer. Frank wanted to take advantage of the deeper bass sound
his voice had in the morning. Tony told me it was pouring rain when they
arrived at the studio. Susan Birkenhead told me how the song came to
be and how much she adored it. During the session, Frank told Tony
they would keep doing recordings until they had a complete album with
just vocal and guitar. We wish.

Between these two concerts on that date, Sinatra sang three songs that
he never recorded and I don't believe he sang elsewhere: Angel, When
You Wish Upon A Star, & This Changing World. I wish recordings of
these shows would show up some day.

precursor for the  "House I Live In"
film short and his many appearances throughout America on behalf of racial
and religious tolerance.

Ed O'Brien:
According to Buddy Bregman Sinatra was early for
rehearsal throughout the week prior to the actual telecast.
Buddy loves to tell how he got to arrange "Just One Of
Those Things" for Frank. Leland Hayward interrupted
Frank halfway through a run down of the Porter classic.
Hayward, Riddle and Bregman were sitting in the theatre
watching Frank sing it on stage. Hayward announced he
wanted a Broadway sound for the Porter classic. He
rejected Nelson's swinging chart and assigned the chart
to Mr. Bregman, who is still thrilled about it to this day.
Show was live and there was time to kill at the end. Ethel
got Frank and Bert to wing "Anything Goes" to close out
the hour. Sinatra's stunning version of "All Through The
Night" is the highlight of the hour. Riddle gave him a
wonderful arrangement. Absolutely nothing like the
excitement and energy of live television.

What a great review. The critics were starting
to pay attention again to the kid from Hoboken. I
love the rapt appreciation accorded Frank's glorious
reading of Porter's "All Through The Night."

note: Buddy Bregman told me Frank was early every day for the rehearsals.
During the lunch break, Sinatra would address Buddy with the laudatory
"Genius"
sobriquet. Buddy was never sure if it was meant as a compliment or sarcasm.
He told me Ethel and Frank got along famously.
