[SimpleMail-usr] Turning off preview pane

I found the option in the settings menu "Show Selected Message" which turns
off the preview pane.
But I do so only to work around the crash which otherwise occurs quite
frequently.
Q: If SM crashes, is it possible for SM to somehow clean up the crashed
version so that it can be run again without rebooting?
