Dear Tim,
my question was more about if I needed to apply the writing rules for the
instruments I choose. For example, if I choose a piano, do I need to write a
left hand and a write hand stave or can I use all the MIDI notes on one stave?
Things like that you see? Otherwise, setting the playback devices doesn't seem
too difficult.
Another thing I would like to know, is if signs other than notes are
interpreted when playing back or are they just shown on the score ?

Hi,
Sibelius isn't limited to using the GM sounds present on your computer's
sound chip, or the samples contained within Sounds Essentials. You can set
your playback devices to point to any MIDI ports you have available and, so,
to any external MIDI sound modules/keyboards, etc. that you want to trigger.
Additionally, you can use soft synths via the VST plug-in interface (though
this functionality isn't currently supported by Sibelius Access and will be
extremely difficult to implement).
What sound source(s) are you trying to trigger?

my goal when using Sibelius was not to print scores for an orchestra, but to
be able to compose music for electronic instruments with a composers
approach. If I want a performer's approach, I use sonar and record myself in
real-time. That works very well, but sonar's step record mode doesn't allow
me to go as far as I want to.
In Sibelius, it appears to me, though I'm not very good at music theory,
that choosing an instrument implicates writing something that's playable by
this instrument and using the appropriate signs. How about if I want to
write something that's not playable by a clasical instrument. Which
instrument should I choose.
Any advice is very welcome.
