Dan,
Actually, there's one case in which the existence of your original
access.sfs file would not be an historical curio. That case involves people
with multiple JAWS versions who, as a safety precaution, keep their
"working" version" of a piece of software on their computer along with any
beta or just plain new version of the same. In my case, I put RC1 in JAWS
10 while leaving Beta 1 in JAWS 8. For that circumstance, the Access.sfs
file is useful because JAWS 8 can still use it.

Well spotted.

I renamed the Access.sfs file to AccessDesktop.sfs to make it clear which
one was supposed to be used.

The installation instructions make it clear that AccessDesktop is the one to
use on desktops. Also, one of the registry keys that you install forces
Sibelius to use this layout.

Just to reinforce, the choice is between AccessDesktop and AccessLaptop. The
layout called "Access" (with no other words) is now just a historical curio.

Dan,
Did you know that if a person is installing RC1 over Beta 1, that
his menus and shortcuts folder will have both the Access.sfs and the Access
Desktop.sfs files? Does that matter? K.

Dear all,

the first release candidate for Sibelius Access is now available for
download. Just follow the link below.

This new version should be considerably easier to use than beta 1 but you
may still encounter bugs, in which case, I'd ask that you send a message to
the list so that we can try to replicate the problem and then fix it. Please
remember that this is a release candidate and not an official release.

You can read about the changes in RC1 by following the link below.

<blocked::blocked::http://www.musicaccess.co.uk/sa/Changes.html>

Some important things to note:

1. Laptop keyboard layouts are now supported. This is a new feature and any
comments will be gratefully received. 2. The information keystrokes (usually
involving the F keys) have been reorganised. This had to be done in order to
make room for new features and to establish a pattern which would be easier
to learn. Read the topic "information keystrokes" for details. 3. The tool
window features have been vastly improved. More importantly, you can now use
the properties and parts windows directly by means of standard navigation
keystrokes. 4. The mixer features have been made more reliable. 5. Selecting
more than one item has been made much easier and the announcements which
describe these selections have been made far clearer. 6. The verbosity
options dialog has been made much easier to use and filtered text is now
dealt with through a separate dialog.

Documentation

The Sibelius Access Guide has been expanded to cover some of the new
features. It is not complete yet, however the guide will be expanding
rapidly over the next few weeks so keep checking the list and the music
access site for updates.

There will be several significant changes made to the music access site over
the next few days, so be sure to keep an eye out.

All that remains to be said is download and have fun.
