This will be my final update before releasing the first beta.
The last few weeks have been pretty frantic so I'm not quite where I want to
be. However, the scripts are in working order and good enough to give you
extensive access. I need a few days to finish up the documentation and to
make sure that the features I'm not happy with are made safe and won't blow
up on you.
The scripts will go up some time in the next week and I'll do my best to
make it before the weekend.
Just a few points to consider.
1. This is a beta version and there will be bugs. The whole point of
releasing at this stage is for you to help me find them more quickly. If you
find a problem it is important that you communicate with the group so that
we can pin it down.
2. Think carefully before using these scripts on any serious work until the
official release is made. It is unlikely that a bug will result in the loss
of work but no guarantees can be made until more testing is done.
3. Do not use these scripts if you don't like steep learning curves or get
easily flustered when things don't go as expected. These scripts are quite
different to the previous version and there are several features that will
be new to everyone. Most bugs should be handled gracefully but if the plugin
crashes some dialogs will pop up that can be a bit alarming. You may want to
wait until some testing is done and more users are familiar with the scripts
before boarding the bus!
4. The documentation at this stage is quite brief (more of a specification
really) and relies on you knowing a bit about previous versions. This is one
of the things I will be working on over the next few weeks while you're all
busy testing.
5. The plan is to make a few more releases over the coming weeks to fix bugs
and complete features which are not quite ready. There's also some internal
code tweaks I need to make for neatness' sake. I would like the final
official version to go live by the end of August in time for the next
academic year.
