You can still use the magnetic layout just fine. Do all your composition in
Sib 5 and when complete, save. Then launch Sib 6 and open the same file and
allow it to make the adjustments.
When you're in Sib 6:
From the menus choose Layout > optimise staff spacing.
This makes Sibelius go through and apply the magnetic layout rules to the
staves themselves. This doesn't happen automatically so you have to run the
option in the menu.
Make sure that Magnetic Layout is checked in the Layout
menu, as well.
Works just fine.

I have Sib6 here as well. I bought a copy as soon as it was
announced, because of the promise held for us by the magnetic layout.
