Isolation should always be done up front in the design process, keeping 
sensitive circuitry away
from switching and power circuits.

However, one should also consider the coupling of the power and 
switching circuit grounds and
power rails, and the path that these currents take.  If the sensitive 
circuits share the same power and
ground, moating can steer the high power currents away from the 
sensitive circuits.
