Boris,

The positive drift you are seeing is the conductor resistive loss of the
transmission line.

Zo=sqrt[(Ro+jwLo)/(Go+jwCo)];

Where: Zo is the intrinsic characteristic impedance of the transmission
line; Ro is the intrinsic series resistance per unit length of the
transmission line; Lo is the intrinsic loop inductance per unit length of
the transmission line; Go is the intrinsic conductance per unit length of
the transmission line; Co is the intrinsic capacitance per unit length of
the transmission line. The RLGC parameters can be obtained from a 2D field
solver.

Subject: [SI-LIST] TDR & Impedance rise in lossy interconnects

Hello,
When running a TDR measurement on a lossy channel such as long backplane I
always see a positive drift of the impedance along the interconnect.
Is it just an artifact or should it account for physical property of the
material?
What's the physical explanation behind this?

Thanks,
Boris.
