Subject: [SI-LIST] Recruiter Postings

si-list-

After two have shown up in a single day, I think a
re-statement of the si-list policy on job postings
is in order. The policy is iterated in the "welcome
aboard" message sent out when a person subscribes
to si-list, but it seems that periodically a
reiteration is in order.

It has been a si-list policy that job postings may
be made by working engineers and hiring managers to
fill positions in their organizations. Such postings
may be made occasionaly and should include a brief
description of the available position, and a phone #
or e-mail address so that those interested may follow-up.

Postings by recruiters (head-hunters), HR departments and
such are discouraged. SI-list is _not_ to used as a
source of clients for these sort of businesses.

Even though today's economy has forced a number of our
colleagues to seek new employers, allowing unchecked
numbers of recruitment messages to be posted to si-list
would soon degrade the technical signal-to-noise ratio on
the list. With a subscribership in excess of 3000 people
worldwide, if just a small percentage of the subscribers
were to post commercial recruitment messages we would soon
be up to our collective ears in such traffic.

To Summarize:
-------------

Job Postings by working engineers or hiring managers are OK to
post provided that they are only posted occassionaly and the
postings are brief and to the point. (Don't make them look like
a display add out of the Sunday Newspaper). Take all follow-up
 traffic off list.

Job Postings by commercial recruiting entities (Job Recruiters,
Head Hunters, Employment Agencies, HR Departments and the like)
are generally discouraged. Please find another venue for your
 activities.

If in doubt of the appropriatness of a job related posting,
feel free to contact me off-list to discuss.

Also on a related topic, but from the opposite side of the fence,
the blind posting of resume's to the list is discouraged. A simple
message stating that you are available in the job market and a
short succinct listing of your qualifications and contact info
is OK. Please don't attach your resume to the message which will
be forwarded to 3000+ people. Provide a web URL or e-mail address
to enable potential employers to obtain your resume'.

 Regards,
