DEAR Folks, I have a 14MHZ clock, series terminated with a 30 Ohms resistor that exhibit non monotonic edge. Since my output driver has very wide range of output impedance (20-60 Ohms) my initial reaction was to adjust the termination resistor to get red of this problem. I replaced the 603 termination resistor with a through hole POT keeping the wires between the POT and the resistor pads to a minimum length. When dialing the POT I was able to find a value that completely eliminated the reflection on the clock. However, when I replaced the POT with a discrete 603 resistor with equal value the edge comes back. Can one explain this to me?
