Ray,=20 I agree 100%. I incorrectly implied that SPICE .noise could coexist with a time-domain simulation; but it can't. And while Monte Carlo might with some effort give a value for the eye opening, it won't display an eye in the time domain. And since as Scott said SPICE is deterministic, it doesn't include time-domain noise even in the simulation of noise generators for which it has rms noise models, such as zener diodes.=20 If I was stuck with only a SPICE simulator I could represent (with considerable difficulty) an eye diagram of sorts using multiple sources; but only for purposes of display, as I would more or less need to know the answer beforehand in order to design such a simulation. I would defer to Scott's list of tools suited to random time-domain processes. It isn't obvious to me that this function can be used to inject jitter into a time domain simulation. Can spice's Monte Carlo statistical capabilities be applied to the zero crossings of a voltage source? I've always thought that it could only statistically vary component values. On the other hand one could probably generate a random noise voltage and sum it with a reference voltage in a comparator to cause random jitter on the output of the comparator. Alternatively, the random noise source could be used to modulate a behavioral VCO clock source.
