[SI-LIST] AC coupling capacitor testpoint

I have one new thing to say about AC-couple capacitors: they can now be used
as test points for serial protocol analysis tools. There are probing
methods which can temporarily attach directly (solder) to the end caps of a
pair of AC capacitors.

A disposable "flex tip" probe head solders to the capacitor pair. It can
then connect to a Flying Lead
(manufactured by SAMTEC.... see the "Spirit FL" ).

Our serial bus probes include this as a probing option.

Hi Liu,
I have done designs both ways with PCIe, and didn't notice much of a
difference in the compliance tests between RX and TX ends. Both were
able to pass without issue. It's always best to simulate first if you
can.=20

Best of luck,
Mike

Subject: [SI-LIST] How to place the AC coupling capacitor of the serdes?

Dear si-listers:
AC coupling per the PCI Express Base Specification Revision 1.0a,
section 4.3.1.2 dictates AC coupling to be placed as
close as practical to the transmitter buffer.=20
We consider that the AC cap is used to ensure the DC bias levels of the
transmitted signal do not adversely
affect the receiver, and most of time place it clsoe to the receiver
side. Why the PCIe requires to put it on the TX side?
Is it differ from different serdes interface?

 Thanks and Regards,

                    LIU Luping
