I don't know about you all, but the thought of doggy daycare upsets me. As a child, I never went to daycare; I just can't see dropping my dog off with a bunch of other dogs and some other person to watch and "raise." This person is deciding what behavior is appropriate for MY dog, and correcting what they don't like. They have the potential to undo my training, or to allow things I don't. More importantly, dog daycare don't take intact dogs (at least not the ones in Cleveland), and there's no way I'd send my show dog to a daycare facility, with unknown dogs, to play freely. There's enough posts on this board about people whose own dogs took a piece off some body part, I don't want some dog whose not a part of my pack to take a swipe at any of my boys. Maybe her dogs are too long in the crate and that is why he is tearing them up, only the owner would know. And if she doesn't know why her dog is doing it, he may be spending to much time on his own and she needs to pay attention to him and see whats up. My dogs are all crate trained and I totally believe all of them need to learn not only crate training but tolerence and they generally like to go into an open one for a nap now and again. Usually at bed time, my 4 are?in the house?with me, I am home alone alot and they are usless to me when crated or outside. 2 of my girls fight so they have to be seperated, so when all are in the house those 2 take turns in the crate. Or in good weather, 1 is outside when the other is in. Lots of solutions in this world pick one that works. Crate training is a wonderful tool and often a life saver. Good judgement is good judgement and that seems to me to be the problem, not the crates. Look and see if the dog is to long in the crate and if he is, step up to the plate and take care of the problem. Doggie daycare was suggested, that could be an answer. Hey is this what we are supposed to be arguing about??? It is sometimes hard to keep up with the schedule! I thought it was time for German vs American? The only time my dogs were crated was at dog shows and I never had a dog that liked a crate. Nancy G. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I'd have to say if dog's had their 'druthers', they'd prefer to be able to exercise, eliminate and nibble grass at will. The only time my dogs are crated is in my van for their protection and at a show... though they are always lying at my feet at ring side whenever possible. In 45 ' runs during the day with access to a heated kennel building and watching TV with me in the evenings. Right now, I've got 6 spralled around my bedroom floor. Happy dogs, lucky me.
