I have no problem with this law. We need to realize that the crate not only protects the dog, but us as well. The AR people call it mean to keep dogs in kennels, they should run free. The AR people tell us we are abusing our dogs to put them in boxes, (and it is to protect them if we have an accident). While it sounds good to say we should keep the dogs free in the car, it is the same people who used to say we should not keep kids locked down in car seats, or wear helmets while riding bikes. There are some issues of safety that over come the need for personal desires. If you want protection, strap on a 45 when you drive. Or better yet, keep a K-bar knife on the dash board. Now, that is a safety measure. A sign on the window about German shepherds should be enough, and if need by, arrange your crate to be able to release your dog when you need to. But, for the safety of yourself and you dog, recognize the value of a crate. I like a dog in my lap, but not at 70 mph on the freeway.
