I am curious though, what is the difference between toxic gut and bloat? Does one lead to the other? Any info is appreciated. SueT They are separate entities completely and do not progress from one to another. Bloat/torsion is a result of stomach gases building up and they do go from a bloat to a torsion. Sometimes the spleen torsions instead of the gut. Prompt surgical procedures can often recover your animal. Toxic gut is a bacterial overgrowth that breaks the intestine down very quickly which as a result causes "intestinal death".....necrotic tissue starts very rapidly. This is explained in the simplest of terms.....there is a lot more going on for sure.
