Hey Tari,
You sound a bit, to say the least, STRESSED!! I think that as difficult as
this is for you (and insultingly simplistic) the most important thing you need
to do first and foremost is to try to stay calm.
Nature ALWAYS will take it's course. That may not always be the course we
want it to take, but what is meant to happen will happen. As long as you
continue to do her cleaning, etc. for her, AND continue to handle the babies
constantly, she is very possibly going to continue to allow you to do so.

Is this a first time mother? If not, what was her past "record" like. I'm
sort of getting the strong impression this is a first litter. SO, you not only
have a maiden bitch, you have one who has been through a C-section, her tummy
hurts, she's got this herd of squirming/sqealing little things around her
that smell like chemicals. She's probably also got residual effects from being
put under, etc.

SO, she's dealing with a lot. Depending on her entirely, and again, my
majority of experience is not with GSDs, but a vast majority of moms will all
of a
sudden take over and start caring for their babies on their own. Often, the
more you attempt to force anything (and the more stressed YOU become) the more
resistant she will become.

Do you have any of the soiled paper or bedding left from when she began
whelping, or brought with you from the vet? Something that has the scent of
the
newborn babies, their blood or fluids from their chords, or afterbirth fluids
on
them? If so, rub the puppies with it, and place it in with her and the
babies.

If she hasn't made any aggressive moves with her babies, place her and them
in a confined area, and leave them alone (within listening distance) for at
least a couple of hours. Unless you hear something alarming, don't disturb her
or them. Go in and check on them after 2 hours, make sure she has water, and
food if necessary, and leave her alone again. She needs to be left with them
as much as possible, with as little interference as possible.

Another problem that is very common is when the mom wants to be babied by her
human mom. This may be happening as well as other things, so again, she
needs to be alone with her babies with as little interference or babying of HER
as
possible.

My number is at the bottom of this email. I don't know how far you live from
me, but I'd be happy to try to help talk you through anything I can.

I'm sure you'll get a lot more good advice and from those experienced with
this breed, but basic mothering should probably not be too different from one
breed to the next, so I hope that what I've said is some help to you.

In two weeks, when you've got a good mama and a big healthy litter, you'll be
already planning the next one. There's no joy like that of bringing a nice,
healthy litter of puppies into the world!

HI,
Well, I am on the two hour vigil here with the C-Sectioned mama. I have had
10-15 min cat naps off and on thru the day and night. I am so exhausted I am
probably not thinking right. I have tried all the tricks to getting this
mother to accept these pups. Pee and poo is coming easier for me..not for her.

She won't lick even the peanut butter off them. She will lay, and let them
nurse, but looks away and fights me with getting their butts in her face. ANY
other suggestions, or do we just do the waiting for Mother's instincts. I do
not leave her with the pups, except when I am staying right there with them.
She seems like she wants to be back with them, and not in the crate, but when I
put her in there I have to force her to even get into the whelping box. My
mind is whipped. ANYONE that tells you whelping is easy... copy this email. I
told Paula...shoot me next time I say..I think I'll breed these two bitches 2
weeks apart. JUST SHOOT ME.
