I think the area definetly has a bearing on it. Some areas are not going to get top prices, and some have alot of competition. Remember when people justified buying a puppy from a pet store because show breeders gave them such a hard time? This is similar, to a point. If someone is going to breed thier bitch anyway, I would rather have them at least breed to a dog that has health clearences and good temperament than Jakey Stoltzfus's dog that's tied up outside the barn. Obviously we would try and change thier mind first, but sometimes that doesn't work, so in some cases having a reasonable stud fee is a benefit to the breed. Not that I would use a top notch stud dog for this, but if I had a younger, unproven dog or could refer them to someone who has such a dog. Seriously though, who's going to pay $1500. for a stud fee unless 1.) the dogs a proven Speciality winner, 2) He has an impecable health pedigree, 3) they are planning on keeping a puppy.
