Let me explain how the skybox came into existence. We planned the 2002
National for St. Louis. The seating was less than adequate and seating helps
pay
for the National. The idea of the skybox was presented because there was a
room upstairs where people could watch the events. There was to be (I think)
the
opportunity to buy drinks without having to go downstairs, etc. So there was
an extra charge for sitting up there. It was not designed to be snobby.
Since then this "skybox" has been offered. I paid to sit in it last year - not
to be unfriendly but because I didn't know how easy the seating arrangements
would be for me with my current foot condition. And they would not have been
easy for me in Albany. In Concord I believe there are plenty of seats but
there are some rooms overlooking the arena which have refrigerators, table,
etc.,
and then open to some seats where one can watch (probably need to take your
binoculars!). I must admit I think $2000 is a little pricey and I doubt there
will be many takers.
However, the original idea was cover the lack of seating and loss of income
in St. Louis. And who knows what is going to happen next year when we are back
in St. Louis again. You can't charge for those bleacher seats and the tables
didn't work out so well as people moved them and there just is not enough
good seats.
