[ SHOWGSD-L ] silver coin

Okay, all you experienced ones (I tried for a better word, but couldn't
come up with one) I have an old silver coin of my parents. It's about
silver dollar size, on the front it has a GSD with VEREIN FURDEUTSCHE
SCHAFERHUNDE over it and SV under it. On the back it says DEM
VERDIENSTE with a laurel wreath around it. Does anyone have any idea
of where it came from? Or what it was for?
