I am with Michel and Evan on this one...my GrCh (my breeding) also has multiple
performance titles, plus she has had two litters of puppies; one litter now
approx. 2.5 yrs and the other litter just approaching 6 mos and she already has
five ROM qualifiers from that first litter....she is out of my BIS CH bitch
(also my breeding) who also had a herding title and her ROM.....I trained them
and they travelled with me to those conformations shows and I was the one who
doubled; yes they were both with handlers for short periods of time during the
conformation showings, but I was always there when they were shown and they
always knew when I enter the "building or grounds".... They loved their
handlers, but adored their "momma".....and of course those bitches were OFA
front and back as well.....My dogs are first and foremost my beloved companions
as well..So, I too don't know who you are associating with because I am not the
lone ranger and I personally know multiple conformation people who have the
time and who choose to do so, participate and usually do well in performance
events as well......so the question really is why do people who participate in
the performance venues rarely come over to compete in the conformation ring
with the same dogs they use for performance? Another question would be, why
are the "performance" owners always making snide remarks about people who
choose to show in the conformation ring not "doing enough" with their
dogs....you rarely see or hear the reverse....perhaps the old quotation of
"..methinks that protests too much..." might be appropriate in this
situation.... I personally couldn't care less what venue another person chooses
to participate in....I applaud and congratulate them on whatever achievements
and bonding they have with their dogs....have no inclination to "persuade" or
believe that they all should be "doing what I am doing" or any such
mentality....It "appears" that some people are just not happy with their own
lives for some reason and it usually results in them taking an undue interest
(usually in the form of negative words and/or actions) in what someone else is
doing or not doing.... Just sharing my thoughts...

My 3 Grand Champions all have multiple performance titles. No problem.
They know what to do in both venues.
On top of that one of them is also a Therapy dog, visiting the local
hospital weekly.
It takes work, but it is very rewarding.

It is time to answer those questions. There are examples of those who work
in both venues, and those who only do one or the other. The real question is
why do the conformation people have to work to bring themselves to include
performance? It seems easier to go the other way and force performance to
accept conformation.
Or, better yet, don't force anyone to do something they don't enjoy, and let
everyone do whatever they want to. What a crazy idea!

Michael, that’s great! I always love to see dogs that can do both and embody
that total dog concept! Could you please list the names of the dogs and their
performance titles so I can add them to my records…..Plus, I am sure others
would like to know as well! Great job!
Thank you!

I think the great GV Boss had a herding title! Now if you were lucky enough
to see Boss in person can you imagine what the sheep must have thought when
he showed up on the farm! But Evan's point is well taken, if you want to do
only conformation, nothing wrong with that... it's like I told my wife (
first wife) some guys bought "Play Boy" magazine for the "conformation"
pictures, I was interested only in the articles! Don't tell Zoe or Stormy I
said that! lol FB

Another Study Demonstrates Possible Link Between Spay/Neuter and Increased
Disease Incidences; Underscores Importance of Owners Engaging in Discussing
Both Advantages and Risks of Sterilization with Veterinarians
Over the past several years, new inquiries into the possible risks associated
with spay/neuter have been made by the veterinary medical community
<
http://www.akc.org/akc-dog-lovers/another-scientific-study-challenges-the-wisdom-of-government-mandated-spayn/>.
Recently, a new research article, Gonadectomy Effects on the Risk of Immune
Disorders in the Dog: A Retrospective Study, published on December 8, 2016, by
BMC Veterinary Research, further demonstrates a possible link between
sterilization and increases in certain immune diseases in dogs. The article’s
findings are based on a study of patient records sourced from the University of
California-Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Those records,
originating between 1995-2010, were analyzed to determine possible risk of
immune-related diseases relative to the spay/neuter status in dogs.

<

Data analysis of these records provided striking results. Sterilized dogs had
a significantly higher risk of atopic dermatitis, autoimmune hemolytic anemia,
hypoadrenocorticism, hypothyroidism, immune-related thrombocytopenia, and
inflammatory bowel disease than intact dogs. Sterilized female dogs had an
even greater risk than neutered males for almost all immune diseases analyzed
in the study. Further, sterilized females (but not males) had a significantly
greater risk of lupus erythematosus than intact females. Expectedly, pyometra
(secondary infection of the uterus) was a greater risk for intact females.
The study’s authors concluded that the findings underscore the importance of
sex hormones on canine immune function. In recognizing that sterilization
procedures provide value—including for population control, reduction of
reproductive disorders, and convenience for owners—the authors propose that
their analyses suggest that spaying and neutering is associated with increased
risk for certain autoimmune disorders, and underscores the need for owners to
consult with their veterinarians prior to spaying or neutering to evaluate
possible benefits, risks, and alternatives associated with those procedures.
Additionally, the authors qualify that while their findings indicate a
significant risk associated with canine sterilization procedures and disease,
they do not indicate causality. They propose that additional prospective
studies be conducted to confirm the relationship of sex steroids and autoimmune
risk.

<

The American Kennel Club promotes a balanced approach to the issues surrounding
spaying and neutering. We encourage pet owners to spay or neuter their dogs as
a responsible means to prevent accidental breedings that result in unwanted
puppies. However, the AKC opposes laws that mandate the spaying or neutering
of purebred dogs
<
http://cdn.akc.org/Government_Relations/Spaying_and_Neutering_Apr2016.pdf?_ga=1.198537447.917504720.1407351241>.
Ultimately, we believe that all health care decisions, including whether to
spay or neuter, should be made by a dog’s owner in consultation with their
veterinarian. This latest report provides further evidence that gonadectomy,
like other major surgical procedures, should not be entered into without
consideration of long-term health impacts and never be arbitrarily mandated by
a government entity.

Who are you talking to? Conformation dogs live with the owners, travel to
the shows with their owners, and spend plenty of time with their owners.
Conformation dogs can do performance, and only are limited by the time the
owners can dedicate to the training.
Performance dogs that don't have proper conformation, aren't going to
enter the conformation ring.
It is time to stop cutting down one or the other. People choose what they
want to do with their time and their dogs. There is no right or wrong. It
is not better to do both, just a choice.
