Watching doublers is a >true joy. <G> > >Ileana > Just a thought: about how things change, over a long time...when my Husband and I were Handling GS'S.AND OTHER BREEDS, .. if you were EVER caught with someone, anyone, outside the ring getting your dog's attention, deliberately...you answered to an AKC REP!!! As did the ONE who was Double-Handling or suspected of such and you were brought up on charges.. It was ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED, NO WAY, NO HOW!!!!!!!! I remember Ruth Schriefer, My Mentor telling me when I started Handling, 'Just remember this... The term PRO HANDLER means that you are a Professional and being Paid to exhibit that dog at it's VERY BEST!!. SO...it is up to YOU,. and YOU alone to train and present that Dog , in it's Best Light.. If you can't do it, let the owners find someone who can!! " Also... Not every Shepherd or Show-Dog is a Natural Born Showman... We used to select only the Show Ones , as pups, to bring along, who were Naturals... Now...Anything goes. .But I always believed that the BEST of the BEST Pro Handlers, were those who could get inside a Dog's head and get the Best from that Dog.. It started with Jack McMahon , many years ago...and today, I give all credit to Jim Moses. and a few others..... These Handlers have that Mystical Magic that sets them apart..and that unknown quality to which the dogs they present, naturally respond.. They were and are the" Amazing Puppet-Masters.".. They need no crazy antics by the owners, taking place outside the ring... As they are Masters of their Craft. That is what a True Pro Handler actually is..to me.. The ones who need and depend upon the owners or surrogates to pull Rabbits out of Hats to get the attention of the dogs they handle....are not TRUE PRO'S.. But then, so many Shepherds today, who truly lack that natural SHOWMANSHIP, are being molded by Owners and Handlers and Unbelievable Double-Handling... JMO.
