Thanks Jeff, I read that and thought they were talking about Sweepstakes and futurities, so I went back and re read it. Now that I am aware, my dogs will not have any bodifier, just shampoo and a blowdry. And if blowdrying is against the rules I guess that will have to go. I never would have considered?products such as bodifiers as illegal because everyone does it. I have done it. I have bought the products at shows.??We probably should enforce all the rules and not rely on AKC to do it. You guys can take back Saydee's 4th place at the futurity if you want as I know ignorance of the law is no excuse. Same for the others there who used products like bodifier or hairspray. So let's all make a pact to only show CLEAN dogs, no hair products, just soap and water and maybe a quick blow dry!? Wow how cool will that be? We will have once again wash n wear dogs! Maybe it will catch on and our Westminster will be.....well Krufts 2.(ugh, I am not sure about that)?Think how much spare time handlers will have! Really, I think dyeing is terrible. Bad for the dog, bad for the breed. Rich pigment is all you need and if the judge has a problem with the grizzling down a shepherds back he or she needs to remind themselves of our dogs standard and acceptable colors. I actually like how that looks on my Reese, she has a great rich saddle with grizzling and red/tan. Nothing faded about her. If the dog is faded, but otherwise perfect, weigh the faults and place the dog where they belong. It is simple quit making it complicated. Like Laura said cancer is much more important, if everyone is for drug/dye testing get it passed and do it. In fact we don't have to get it passed, it is already there, just enforce it. I volunteer me and my dogs for it. Ok I am going back to reading the rules for when I become a judge! It states that any substance that can improve or change the dogs natural appearance is forbidden.? It even states that substances, drugs etc that are absolutely?essential for the dogs health and comfort?are?cause for disqualification?IF they can improve or change the dogs appearance.? I want to know where the rules against hairspray, mousse and bodifier is. Here is what I read, please tell me where any other rules are that apply. Rules dismissals (R) Change in Appearance,Disqualification A dog which has been changed in appearance by artifical means exept as specified in the standard for its breed. may not compete at any show and is to be disqualified. Chapter 11 section 8b. A dog is considered? changed in appearance by artificial means if it has been subjected to any type of proceedure that has the effect of obscuring, diquising or eliminating any congenitial or hereditary abnormlity or any undesirable characteristic or anything that improves a dog's natural appearance, temperament, bite or gait. In addition, the insertion of any type of apparatus in the mouth of a dog disqualifies that dog from competition in dog shows and subjects anyone who exhibits, or causes to be exhibited, such dog to disciplinary action. (R) Color: You have the clear authority under Chapter 11 section 8C of the Rules to withold awards from any dog which in your opinion has had its natural color or markings changed. The handler or the owner or both of any d og or dogs from which any award has been withheld for violation of this sction of the rules, or any judge who shall fail to perform his duties under this section shall be subject to disciplinary action. This is on page 20 and 21 of the rules, policies and guidelines for conformation show judges.? In the rules for dog shows it is in chapter 14 section 6. I don't see anything regarding hairspray, mousse or bodifier, only if it changes the dogs color or markings as set by their standard. It doesn't even really address chalk or whitening Have I missed something? Do I need to read some other rules? What am I missing? Where is everyone seeing these rules at?
