I did not read the roast, but I get how it went and how people feel.
Does anyone know what a roasting is? Did anyone ever see the Dean Martin
Roasts that were on TV in the 70's? While the language had to be kept clean
for TV, and it had it's share of bleeps over words, the whole point was to make
fun of someone famous and pick on them with love.
Again, I cannot say from first hand reading, but does anyone else out there
think this was intended to be a poke in the ribs? It may be been more base
than we usually are, but we all swear, many of us as bad as they used to say a
sailor. And if anyone on this lists gets being picked on with love, it is me.
Ask Manny and Al, they are only the latest in a very very very very long list
of people whom I know care for me but show it by picking on me.
If I could not take it I would have no friends at times.
But sadly even I sometimes miss the joke. Ask Dick about that. Every now
and then it does make it over my head. Not often thankfully.
I am sure Ed got the point. He is loved and respected to be sure. He was
great when he came to Miami. So lets all just calm down and reconsider what
that roast was about.
And maybe roasting is not for the magizine. But maybe we can think about
roasting people at the Victory Dinner next year.
