When I was just starting out my mentor (Ellen Heintz) lent me her copies of:
The German Shepherd Today by Strickland/Moses
The Koehler obedience books
Dog Breeding for Professionals by Dr. Herbert Richards

I also like The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat by Juliette de
Bairacli Levy, the Monks of New Skete books and Dr. Pitcairn's Natural Health
for Dogs and Cats. The Encyclopedia-like book by Susan Barwig is good, too.
