 I remember back in the day....a friend of mine and I would take my first show 
dog to any shows we could make, and it was at least once a month if not twice - 
it was such a fun time - now things are so different!  Picking and choosing 
used to not even be something we'd consider - we just went because it was fun 
and we loved going - now I won't be going to even some of the closer shows 
because the judges aren't good, and I just can't afford that any more.

Picking and choosing judges is something you have to do to put your hard earned 
show money to its best use.  If you know a particular judge prefers the type 
produced by the infamous H kennel and you don't have a dog from that kennel or 
one of that type why would you waste your money showing to that judge.  Why 
waste money showing a dog to a judge that insists on clean coming an going and 
your dog is not clean going away.  If I've not shown under a judge before I try 
to do some research on what type of dog he/she likes.  Jack Reed was a master 
at knowing what dog to take to what judge.  That is how I was able to special a 
dog to a national ranking and get an invitation to Eukanauba with no backers 
and on a salary that would keep most people from showing dogs at all.
