This is my worst puppy story. I am happy to say it wasn't a GSD that did
this. I do work for a service dog group and this was one of their puppies.
The puppy was a blue merle collie/lab mix. As he grew he developed quite a
separation anxiety problem. He would break his way out of his crate when his
puppy home providers left him. They had tried many things to help solve the
problem including buying him a kitten. Nothing had worked, but it was New
Years Eve and the couple wanted to go out for the evening. They put him in
their laundry room, inside a airline type crate. They figured even if he did
escape the crate, he would be contained in the laundry room. When they got
home early the next morning, who should meet them on the front lawn but the
service puppy? Not only did he chew and claw his way out of his crate, but
he chewed through the wall of the laundry room, thru the insulation, thru
the fiber board, and then thru the vinyl siding of the house. Needless to
say, he was washed out of the program! The moral of the story is: If you
are building a house, make sure your builder uses plywood on the outside of
your new house. If a dog can chew out, a thief using an exacto knife could
probable cut his way in. SueT
