I started by using the diet on the Nature's Farmacy website. It's a great
guideline to feed raw or a cooked homemade diet. www.naturesfarmacy.com.

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] need help feeding raw please

Hello,
I have fed raw for several years now--but IN ADDITION TO the kibble. Not
just strictly raw. I have used Diamond Lamb & Rice for about 6-7 years now
along with raw AND cooked meats and raw veggies, yogurt, eggs, etc etc.
I am very distressed about the recent recalls on the Diamond and feel
betrayed by them. I have bragged to everyone for years now that to the best
of
my knowledge, all the recalls we've had in the past several years, most of
them were the food with corn in it--never the Diamond Lamb & rice cause it
has no corn or soy--well, now it has been racalled and I am mad. (I have
many of my puppy people using it also). NO- I have NOT had a problem with
the food I bought-the store where I go is really good to me and has kept me
informed about the recalls and none of the food I purchased was bad. But...

I think it is time for me to just feed raw and to hell with the processed
dog food--but.................
I am not sure how to start.
I do NOT have a food processor or a grinder, and right now, really cannot
afford to get one-since I know a good one is several hundred $.
Also, I have no idea how much of whatever meat I should expect to buy--and
I know it is not advisable to just buy meat at a grocery store--I know you
need to buy in bulk and I am afraid that is a bit cost prohibitive at the
moment. My adults eat between 1--2 cups each 2 X/day & 2 of the young
males eat about 2 1/2 cups of kibble plus the meat, eggs, or whatever I put
into it. I do use mostly chicken-I buy the 10 lb bags of leg quarters and
yes, I do cook it-I boil it, take out the big leg bones and mix the rest in
with the broth & everyone gets some of that for breakfast everyday. (Been
doing that for over 25 years.) Then for the evening meal, I give one of
the following--liver, eggs, yogurt, tuna or other canned fish, ground beef,
or whatever I have MIXED IN with their dog food.

I am a bit frustrated at this point--I want to feed raw but I am not sure
how to start and what I need to get--or how much this will cost me.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks for listening.
