In the past I've tattooed all of my dogs and now I am taking advantage =
of
the chip.

I just chipped my litter and a Chinese Crested....chipping was through a
clinic organized by Delaware Valley GSDC and all I can say is THANKs...

Registration with the company is steep...but the AKC offers registration =
at
a price of $12.50 per dog ( includes a tag at no add'l cost) and this =
price
is discounted to $9.00 per dog if the sponsors of a chip clinic contact =
the
AKC two (?) weeks in advance.

I was able to get the better price, because I registered not only my =
newly
chipped dogs, but also my previously chipped dogs...I wanted to have
everyone in the same data base.....

I keep copies of rabies certificates & chip numbers in each car, my =
grooming
gear and tags are attached to crates...no collars on my guys unless we =
are
traveling and those collars have name & phone number permanently =
attached or
stitched in...nothing hanging...

Chlorine is very unstable, it doesn't build up as far as anything I've =
ever=20
learned. The Chlorine becomes a gas and dissipates. The water, of
course,=20
has minerals, and they can build up :-)

Change in AKC's requirements for the CGC=20
  Posted by: "Sheila E." sudbury@xxxxxxxxxxxxx sudburyecs=20

I happened to go to AKC's site for the CGC and noticed a new
requirement, i.e., to sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge. And
that pledge requires MICROCHIPPING your dogs and that they wear
  collars with tags.

While I do chip my dogs, it's MY CHOICE to do so. I have an old dog
that's only tattooed and not chipped. Once again, AKC is changing
the rules to promote AKC's income (registration with their CAR
program, tho they stopped short of requiring that one). And we all
know they want NAIS expanded to include pets!

And for safety reasons, my dogs wear collars only when they leave
home, and then only when they leave the car. Since that's most often
when we go to shows and trials, or to training classes, their collars
do NOT have tags attached to them. Their tags stay safely in an
envelope, together with their rabies certificates and licenses. And
think of all those AKC events where tags are specifically prohibited
  during competition. What a contradiction!

Guess I won't be getting CGC's on my dogs in the future. I already
allowed my CGC evaluator status to lapse when AKC wanted me to PAY
for the privilege to VOLUNTEER as a CGC "judge" at my obedience
club. Come to think of it, I haven't entered a CGC test since they
began requiring payment for a certificate, either.

  Sheila E.
