A couple of times I have had young pups in need of a vaccination. My vet has sometimes opted for a measles vaccine. He said he felt the immunity was good, and the vaccine was easier on the very young pup. Anyone else done this? Doris E The measles vaccine was often given initially (once only) to young puppies in order to protect the puppies from distemper (the two viruses are similar) . The theory was that the dam didn't carry immunity to meales so her immunity wouldn't interfere with the pupppies developing their own immunity which would allow them to be protected from distemper in their own right rather than relying on mom's immunity.
