Actually Lupus can be fatal if it goes into the internal organs, mainly 
kidneys, heart, brain or lungs. I have not heard of Lupus being fatal in 
relation 
to infections (except fungal), unless the dog were on a high rate of 
Prednisone..  That is not very common and it can be controlled with drugs along 
with 
close monitoring.
