Just depends on what you mean by suspension. At the trot most animals have
suspension,
even you. In GSs suspension is the result of the thrust from the rear, how
much forward
push is expended. Check where the rear foot comes under the dog. It should
reach far
under and pass the imprint left by the front foot so effortlessly that there is
no up and down
movement of the body, only forward. Dog that are incorrect in this respect
must be moved
very fast and look exciting. Is that word in the standard ? LOL

Good explanation Carolyn. So few judges seem to understand this and get
blown away but that far reaching dog and ignore soft backs, dysfunctional
rears.
I recall a GVX many years ago that so many were raving about (not that it
has not been repeated since) but I was not one of those people. She was
applauded for her tremendous outreaching gait. She was one of the earliest
with the pushed forward fronts and gave the false sense of great movement.
Got the national tape at that time and watched it at a breeder/friends home
that loved this bitch. We put her in slow motion and I mentioned to watch
where that front foot hit the ground....bingo! almost directly under the
little bit of prosternum she had.
These dogs are exciting to look at, usually busy as they fly around the
ring.
Carolyn never mentioned period of suspension. The dog that has a correct
front,rear and balance will undoubtedly be that breathtakingly gorgeous
suspended animal that gives you goose bumps.
Many are now breeding running dogs, not gaiting ones....and many judges
seem to be getting caught in the "excitement".
