now i must learn how to handle a one puppy litter as i have never had that
happen before...my bitch has more milk than my puppy will need....thank you
for
all the advice and next time i will do a c-sect and i advised my vet of my
decision and will not wait...natalie
Natalie,
I would suggest that you contact your vet and tell him that your girl may be
available to foster orphaned puppies or kittens. One of my schips did this
and it was alway amazing to watch her with her "strange puppy" (a newborn
kitten
abandoned by his mother) .

Also, I would assume that you're not talking about just making an appointment
for a C-section without giving your girl a chance to have her puppies
herself. I think that a one puppy litter is very unusual, and the giant puppy
is not
the norm. I believe that most breeds of dogs, especially a working (herding)
breed like a Shepherd should be able to free whelp puppies. If she has an
ongoing problem with doing this and HAS to have C-sections, I wouldn't want to
continue breeding her as whelping problems are often genetic and can be carried
on through her daughters.

I hope your new baby gets LOT'S of extra socialization with humans and other
dogs, as only children can end up being very spoiled.
