I agree with Kathy. I think more dogs "get away" with poor temperaments at the specialties than the all-breeds. Most all breed judges, even those that don't do the temp. test, are rather unforgiving of poor temperament in any breed. It depends on whether the judge (in either venue) is just doing the test as the PC wants it done, whether the judge is a stalker, approaches expecting, and maybe provoking, a bad temperament or some kind of spook, etc. No, it isn't necessary to hug and love up a dog in the ring, unless it's your own dog... As for whether we should continue the test, that's always going to be a matter of opinion...I do know that some of the other, tough type breeds wouldn't mind having some kind of test that resembles that of the GSDCA...at least that's what people have told me.
