Hello to The List!
I have not posted before, but have watched in amazement the dynamics of this
list. Humans can be so weird sometimes!! :)
About myself: I knew I wanted a Shepherd when I was in the 3rd grade. I saw
the Disney movie "Love Leads the Way", which is about the first seeing eye dog,
Buddy. My mom would not let me have one since Shepherds were "vicious", so I
did not get my first Shepherd until I was 18. :) I now have a nice young sable
male who is working on filling out, and a 5 year old who wanted to be a show
dog, but has a gay tail, so we are working on his obedience and agility titles.
[Some of you curious georges out there are probably looking up my kennel name
already (from my email address). FYI, the Silver Creek German Shepherd web
site is not mine.] :)
Someone (Fred I believe) made a comment that very few are responsible for all
of the Hunte talk on the list, so I will finally speak out.
I wrote a letter a few years ago to the editor of a monthly pet retail trade
magazine that carries Hunte Corp. advertisements. At the time, there was
legislation being reviewed that would prohibit the sale of puppies & kittens
through retail stores. This publication had a write up about the legislation,
and explained that the pet retail industry would be in big trouble if animals
could no longer be sold at pet stores. I wrote a lengthy letter to the editor
that explained that the pet industry is made up of much more than pet stores
that sell pets, and the pet industry as a whole would not suffer. I went on to
describe some of the awe full conditions found at our local pet stores, and
that an ethical breeder would never sell puppies to a retail store where they
would sit in 3'x3' cages for up to 6 months. Hunte responded the next month
with his rebuttal, which I will send in my next message. It explains his
position as a "professional breeder". He is well spoken (or who
mever wrote it for him), and could be very convincing, though it does not
change that he has no control over the puppies once they get off his truck.
There are many of us out here who feel very strongly about this, but have not
yet posted. We are out here fighting the battle against the puppy mills in our
societies on a daily basis and we are still in total disbelief that the most
famous puppy mill broker was just accepted into our great German Shepherd Dog
Club. We NEVER in our worst nightmares thought this could happen. While we
are working diligently to stop the sale of puppies through retail stores (we
have seen 3 closed in our area in the last 4 years! Yeah!!), the majority of
our board brings the perpetrator into our midst. I want to sincerely thank
those board members who voted NO. I hope the YESERS can give us an explanation
at some point.
I am glad it was brought to our attention the partnership between Hunte & Hunt.
J.B. Hunt owns a large canned hunting ranch in Missouri, so if any of you in
list land are wanting to add an African Species to your trophy room, just give
our newest member a call and he can hook you up with his buddy Hunt. You can
have all types of animals shipped in and turned loose for your hunting
enjoyment!
Folks, we do not want to be associated with the people who make a living in
ways that can be used as propaganda by the animal rights groups! Their
headline can now read: "GSDCA embraces most successful puppy mill broker in
America", when it could have read: "GSDCA sends message to puppy wholesalers by
denying membership to puppy mill broker".
Thanks for letting me vent. Hopefully soon we will be able to "Wag More and
Bark Less" . :)
