Entries are falling because: 1. Nowadays EVERYTHING is much more expensive (dogs, vet care, entry fees, gasoline, rasing and registering a litter) because this is 2006, not 1976. (So it's too expensive for some.) 2. There are many more things to do in the world now, meaning I don't see the dedication and perseverance evidenced by those who showed dogs in the 70s or 60s. 3. People want instant gratification--dogs finish from the puppy classes, for cripes sake! If THAT doesn't happen, some people dump the dogs. 4. In general, many newbies don't pay attention to pedigrees, to avoid the pitfalls of the past--therefore, they complain or quit, when the "stars" they've been raising drop dead of bloat or a heart condition, etc. 5. Some breeders don't give newbies the chance to prove that they have the guts to show and finish a nice GSD--for shame. And that's why entries are falling, Charlie Brown.
