[ SHOWGSD-L ] Why SHOULD the white DQ fault be removed?

Thank you Ruth - my argument exactly. So, I say it
again! The DNA argument is irrelevant. It is not a
matter of proving the dog is a GSD but that it
excels as a representative of the breed to the
standard in the breed ring. This is a sport and
the standard is, by its very nature and existence,
not INCLUSIVE but EXCLUSIVE! No standard - no
breed. If the change is to broaden the appeal, to
be more inclusive, or to raise revenue, then it is
destructive to the purpose of a standard in the
first place. Lowering the bar will not popularity
make - in the long run.
But where there are conflicts or poor wording to
be addressed, OK! But the effect of these changes
are to broaden the standard, whether intended or
not, and that is not necessary or desirable, IMO!
It is quite simple yet the arguments go so far
afield... Why can't we all be as logical as Mabel,
Garfield or Snoopy!

The argument for whites is that whites have always
been part of the GSD dna. Well, using that logic
so were wire coats, floppy ears, soft coats and
square proportions.
The idea of a breed is to create something that
comes closer and closer to the ideal - none of
those traits above were ever desired as ideal.
You CANNOT have a breed that is the most popular
breed in the world and decide that in our small
part of it, we are going to bring back all those
early undesirable traits just because it might
increase club membership.
That means we are actually creating our own breed.
