You can safely believe everyone's reminiscences about LaMar. What Evan
reported is correct. LaMar said the same thing at a grooming seminar he
presented at a meeting of the GSDC of Detroit in the mid-70's.
He was a genius. He was extremely irreverent and he was probably the most
outrageous (in more ways than one) GSD person I ever met. I am sure he is
cracking up at this discussion. Sarcasm was also a skill of his.
What Penny described as her experience with him is typical of how he yelled at
his clients, oldies and newbies, alike. He was an equal opportunity "verbal
abuser." :-) :-)
I respected his skill and knowledge and thought him a true SuperStar, but, I
knew I could never take that berating from any handler whose bills I paid.
Some very big "Legends of our Breed" did take that from him.
Though not always working tactfully with his clients, he sure did win, and win
BIG, for them.

I don't think he said "a good showdog", I think he meant that
