Thanks for remembering him Angela and Kay. All I have is a really old website
that has Patent, Integra (Tiger), and Soleil (Sunny), pics. There is one there
of Patent in California with a Group win.

Patent had one of the most gorgeous heads I had ever seen on a GSD (along with
his other many attributes). Hard to take one's eye off him. Wow, that long
ago.....amazing.

Yes, Patent was from the 'P' litter... you are amazing Ed!! ['P'iss Ed off
litter] heh!! Do you know.... that he was whelped 20 years ago? We lost him at
the age of 15... but was out lived by his brother Pistol who lived 6 months
longer. The Vancouver Police Constable who purchased Pistol called me when he
died... adding, you told me he was from a long living line... it really turned
out to be true! [would I lie?] I just wish I still had the get up and go to
show and breed... but, it got up and went. I've no idea what I'll do with his
frozen. Sad, I try not to think about it.

Was the great Patton born in that box! Loved that dog even though he beat my
dog every time I competed against him! Ed

Bas made me 2 whelping boxes using the designs in a very old book German "This
is the German Shepherd Dog". Easy to build using screws.. makes lending it to
others simple enough. Wood is best if not painted. Just like your cutting
board, wood naturally kills germs. A sudsy soap wash, let it dry and it's
ready. I've mountains of 2nd hand bed sheets and towels that I put under
newspaper [which I keep adding to as they get wet], and when the whelp is over,
just pull the newspaper out so the babies can lie on the clean sheets and
towels. Decades of litters can be observed from the splatters of whelps gone by
on the boxes... they are still as sturdy as the day they were built.

Add rails inside for the pups to be able to get underneath them.
Remove when the pups are older.

Go to Ikea and buy a book case. Put it together, take out the shelves and lay
it down. It makes a great whelping box.

I am thinking about making a whelping box until I can afford this Jonart box. I
would like it to be durable for at least two years so I will be able to get
this one.
Does anyone have any suggestions on wood types and do you recommend to finish
the wood with a safe paint/finishing? Thank you in advance. Angela
