And they have stacks of unused cut newsprint paper… clean, no dirty ink on them
for those first couple of days.

They wanted a picture of the litters as payment :-)

Then a trip to the HUGE material goods store in L.A. for the 35-40 in wide
‘fleece’ at bargain prices. Cheap enough to toss when dirty, but good enough
to wash and sew up together and make good sleeping pads.

Tip: Need newspapers? Find your local newspaper
and ask for roll ends of the paper. They usually
throw them away or sell them for scrap paper
cheaply. You can then unroll the paper to size
rather than scatter old newspapers about.

A HUGE stack of old hand/dish towels. Big towels
to put down to keep the whelping box clean (I
change all the bedding after all the puppies are
born & sleeping & mom has finally decided to go
outside and put down washable fleece). Newspaper
for mom to use if she needs to (so I don't have to
worry if a puppy is born outside). A phone to
keep in touch with my vet, etc.
Paper and pencil to record time and gender of the
puppy. A baby scale to weigh the little tykes if
they look small. Melted ice cream (vanilla) or
CalSorb to provide the 2 most-needed ingredients
for mom - calcium and glucose - to keep the labor
going, lots of fresh water, a radio in the
background with easy listening music, a pair of
scissors and alcohol (to keep the scissors clean),
dental floss to tie off the umbilical cord if mom
doesn't cut/clamp it herself, forceps (donated by
my dentist) in case mom cuts the cord too close
and I have to so some stitching. And.... a
wireless video camera with an app on my tablet and
phone and desktop computer so I can see what's
going on any place - under $100 now.
