As I sit to write this, Smokey and Faith have FINALLY reached St. Francis Animal sanctuary in Erin Tennessee. Annamaria informs me that Smokey bounded out of his crate full of kisses and happy tail wags, while his daughter, 8 month old Faith seems a bit confused as to "whats next?"....Here they will find the peace they have been so long searching for until their forever person finds them! A big thank you to the transport people, Melissa and Rodica who made this possible! Friday found Denise driving to the DeKalb County shelter, expecting to bring home a senior boy. She left with not one, but TWO emaciated GSD's who had been obviously neglected. They were at least 15 pounds underweight and their nails had grown so long as to turn outward. Both boys were so happy to be in caring, loving hands! They rested for an evening, destressing from their escape from this horrific "shelter". They were brought to the Vet on Saturday where Mack (the more senior of the two) was found to be heartworm positive. Jack is suffering from PF and received a prescription for Cyclosporin. Thank you Peggy for your offer of assistance with these two! While they do have health issues, these two have super temperaments and are so worthy of a second chance! We have a foster home for Mack with Jann Culpepper in Georgia and a potential foster for Jack...thank you Pauline for your networking! Ollie, the dog that was abandoned in the oil pit is resting at St. Francis as well, in Annamarias capable hands. He was still covered in sludge when he arrived, and so with the help of her assistant, was placed in the tub and received a nice warm bath. While he is obviously struggling with some inner demons, Ollie made no attempt at aggression. He is quite literally immobile with fear. He came to St. Francis totally dehydrated; we still are unsure as to how much of the oil he ingested. LHSH wants to extend our most sincere thank you to all those who donated to his care...I fear it will be a long road back. Deb and Anja in California are closely watching the Baldwin Park girl, who was discovered to have Kennel cough. LSHS, Deb and Anja are keeping tabs on her status, and if she becomes critical we will attempt to pull her and locate a vet clinic where she can be treated. By the photos, it appears that she recently had a litter of pups...where they are, we will never know. A GSD and her ELEVEN week old babies were left to their fates at a kill facility in Moultrie County Georgia! Thank you Barb Hefner and Jann Culpepper for your generous offer of transport assistance for this little family! They have been rescued and are now safe. Tina Downs in MD. coordinated this rescue. At this time LHSH is frantically looking for a foster/forever home for Atticus. He is a SENIOR GSD who was found wandering with a chain hanging from his collar. It appears that he had endured some sort of cruelty and has a moderate neck injury. He has endeared himself to the entire staff at the shelter, but his time is quickly running out and we have exhausted all of our contacts. Atticus has no rear musculature; a sure sign that he spent his life on a short chain. If you, or someone you know is willing to give this boy a soft bed for the remainder of his days, please contact Karin Baldwin at mkbaldwin@xxxxxxxxxxxx Atticus is in Virginia and he IS critical. We at Last Hope, Safe Haven want to thank the administrators of this list for allowing us to continue to post the needs of these dogs that have been abandoned to a potentially horrific fate. Please check out our website at Lasthopesafehaven.com for pictures of these and other dogs who are looking for their forever someone. And from the hearts of Ollie, Jack, Mack, Smokey, Faith and hopefully Atticus... Thank you....we truly WERE their Last Hope. Dawn Restuccia, Pres. Last Hope, Safe Haven, Inc. Dawn Restuccia, Pres.
