If you take any other breed or top dog there is not one handler that
dominates any breed as Jimmy does our breed in the history of dog showing. Some

Livingston, etc. are constantly on the lookout for the best dogs that can WIN
nomatter who the breeder. They search the entire country for the best dogs to

to the circuit. Once they have the best dog they look for the "money people"
to sponsor that animal. In some cases even the top handlers cannot find the
people to promote an animal and the career of that dog may not ever be what it
could have been if it would have had the $$$. Jimmy never runs out of
clients with big money to back any dog he cares to promote. He has done a great
job
of "selling himself" over the years to the right money people.
NOW THE DOWNSIDE TO THIS FOR OUR BREED. Jimmy has gotten so powerful with his
ability to promote a dog (to his credit) that he knows he can do it with a
less capable animal. He has proven that over and over again. He does not search
the countryside for the best GSD he can find at all. He keeps the pipeline
full of animals he "for whatever reason" decides to show and he knows he can
win
with it. THE PEOPLE HE SHOWS FOR (HIS CLIENTS) ARE NOT SHEPHERD PEOPLE THEY
ARE JUST FOLKS WITH BIG MONEY THAT WANT TO WIN AND JIMMY GIVES THEM THAT. Not
one of his big money clients that have recently promoted the big time recent
winners care about our breed as we do. They may not be paying members of our
parent club, frequent visitors to our futurities, may have never read the GSD
standard, or have ever whelped a German Shepherd litter. So therefore we have a
powerful exhibitor that has not shown "Our Best" and that is the only problem
I have with this subject. I love the breed and the breed is above any
handler, money sponsor, etc. so therefore lets show the best and when we see a
great
one let's let our AKC judges know that's what a GSD should be.
Conclusion: This is no Jimmy bashing at all. The man is the hardest working
handler I have ever seen and the smartest promoter of a dog in the game. All I
am saying in my opinion the breed has suffered to a degree with his ability to
do what he has done. Now listen......in the same respect Jimmy has helped the
breed tremendously. The shepherd in an all breed show prior to his success
was not a winning breed in the show ring. Jimmy has made our breed a very
recognizable, favorite breed at any all breed show you attend which we all
benefit
from. Without his success we would not be winning the Best in Shows as a breed
that we can do today. SO IT IS A MIXED BAG OF GOOD AND BAD.
