I placed a puppy with an elderly couple who were very active and affluent as
well. It was a surprise gift for her husband the doctor!! He said it was the
best gift he ever received!
I just placed a almost 6 months old puppy who I was holding back to keep
evaluating for my program. This couple had a horrible experience with a BYB
when the 9 week old baby girl went down sick after only three days....she was
SO full of worms: Round and hookworms! She passed away.
Blaze is a bit more rambunctious and I decided to offer him to them....he's
homeward bound to Nashville TN! The man is ex police and military
retired....and still young...he wants to start SAR with him! So I don't think

No, I don't believe you are being unreasonable. Particularly with 2 and 3.
On number 1 if I knew, or could locate someone in the area that could have
done a home check, I would have sold them a puppy.

I have already turned down 3 puppy buyers and professionally and politely
informed them that our puppies might not work for their situation. My
husband fears we are going to end up with a house full of puppies as my
standards are so high! I am worried he is right. :-(
My question is...am I being unreasonable? Please tell me the truth.
I turned down one buyer as they wanted to purchase a puppy for their 14 year
old son as a present for winning an elite science competition (they were
also located across the country which would require me to ship puppy without
meeting them. The parents were highly educated professionals. They sent me
the size of their house (enormous) and dimensions of yard (appropriate).
I turned down a second puppy buyer as she was getting married "to a military
man and wanted to start their family". I don't know. I got nervous about
that. Where will they live? What if he gets sent overseas? Do bases allow
dogs? Who gets married and immediately buys a puppy? I am sure all my fears
are unreasonable. I asked for a letter from landlord allowing puppy and 3
references and never heard back.
This last buyer I am not going to sell too because she wants to buy the
puppy as a gift for her boyfriend which just makes me all kinds of nervous.
I just did the landlord letter and reference thing and haven't heard back
yet.
I have had 7 serious inquiries in the 2 weeks I have tried to advertise the
litter. These 3 that I just don't feel comfortable with; 2 that I placed on
my waiting list; and 2 I have steered to other breeders I respect as they
wanted a puppy right away.
Am I being too unreasonable with approving puppy buyers?
At what point do you panic at finding appropriate homes?
What is the longest you have kept a puppy until the right home was found? Of
course, I am prepared to keep them as long as I need too...I was just
curious.
