Losing Boss to a tick related disease was tragic as those nasty deer ticks
or hard to find as they are so small. Since birds, deer, etc. can carry
these ticks for miles, not to mention they can travel in suitcases, etc.
soon they will be everywhere.

Apparently this site is
way behind on information regarding
Lyme
disease and Ehrlichiosis as both are a SERIOUS problem out
here in Northern California. In fact the

Color Guard because we could not get him
over the ehrlichiosis after over three years on
Doxycycline.
Lymes is a serious common
problem in Northern California with
people
and with dogs. We know several people that have
had
serious cases of it...and have seen it a
lot in dogs.
Problem is.... the test for
Lymes with people AND dogs will give
you a
false negative result. You must run a three way
test
for Lymes disease, Ehrlichiosis and
Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever to get
correct
result for Lymes. ( a 'ticksology' test
) The Drs.
are learning that
out here when they test people.
WE learned
that with Color Guard...as we had run three separate
Lymes tests over a span of 2 yrs....all
NEGATIVE. Yet I was sure
he had it as we
had seen it a lot with other dogs AND people in
the area by then. When we finally took the
advice of an East Coast
breeder that had
experienced it....we ran the 3-way test and it came
back positive for Lyme AND Ehrlichiosis!
If you are where there are deer....you need to
be concerned about
Lyme disease in the
West. The map should have a lot more yellow...<G>
