Definitely I wanted my first GSD for the conformation ring. Prior to that
I was somewhat into Obedience. Not Show Obedience, but basic obedience. Did
some training for families with problem dogs. Gave weekly classes for
individuals and their dogs. In fact that's how I met D,D. Ardoin. Tried to
train a nut case he had.(lol) That was in 1966. (those were the days!)
Back then there were no Rallies, dancing with your dog, therapy dogs, etc,
and very little herding if any. Times have changed dramatically since
then. Since then our Club has chanced very little where it counts. As a
Parent Club we must embrace all aspects of the GSD. If we don't, we will stop
being viable as an organization.

I think Stormy's idea is a good one â?? most people who were not raised in
the conformation arena don't say, "I think I want to buy a dog that can win
dog shows." Most want a GSD and then want to *do* things with the dog --
obedience, rally, tracking, whatever. Seems to me we have nothing to lose,
and quite a lot to gain.
