This, of course, points out the problems. We should never auction or sell
dogs on the internet. While this was a good purpose, to support a great
program, the method is a problem. As was pointed out, what if someone bids to
breed to a liver, or a bitch with terrible hip history? What will we do? What
if
someone wants to breed to his or her bitch that has thrown terrible
problems, can we refuse? What do we know about the stud dogs, if they haven't
been
proven? What happens if there is no pregnancy?
What should be done is that the bid is a donation, and then it is left to
the stud dog owner, and the bitch owner to negotiate or decline the breeding.
When working for a charity, there has to be a great deal of thought into the
consequences.
Perhaps we could change it to a "virtual stud dog" and make all fees a
donation, rather than payment for a studd fee? That resolves the problems
that
come up, when you require a breeding, or a payment, without control.
I would be glad to send a "virtual stud fee" even if I didn't ever breed to
the dog. In that way I have given to help a good cause, not requred a breeding
the stud dog owner might not like, but signaled my approval of that dog.
