Maybe we all need to ask ourselves some serious questions:

I am answering these because I had a trial to begin Monday in San Diego
for ten days, that got continued. I have been rushing all day to get some
declarations prepared for next week, I am burned out with law stuff, and
decided to take a break. It is your problem, since I want to take a break.

When was the last time I introduced myself to someone new in dogs?
The last time I was at a dog show. I saw some folks watching, so I
suggested they use our chairs.

When did I congratulate a newcomer on their first class win?

The last time I saw anyone win for the first time. I don't remember anyone
that new, in years.

Do I always send congratulations to a list brag?
Every time I see a champion. For points, an OFA, or health certificate,
not so much.

Do I always send condolences to someone who has lost their furry solemate?
Every time, and I mean it.

Am I negative about experiences in other venues that I do no participate
in?
No, I appreciate the dedication for everyone, and I agree they have the
right to do stuff I can't.

Do I denegrate wins and brags that occur in venues I do not participate in?
Who would do that? A win is a win. As they said on the Titanic, whatever
floats your boat.

Do I "participate" in any club, whether it be All Breed or Specialty?
Since the Long Beach club has four or five members, and since Tedi is the
President for the 35th year, this is a question that answers itself.

Do I volunteer my time in breed education, be it Judges Ed or Public Ed?
I offer, but no one wants to listen. This is a sign of intellegence.
Actully I will be speaking to the San Gabriel club in a couple of weeks. I
hope
someone shows up.

When was the last time I donated a stud service, a puppy or whatever, to
encourage participation?
The last time I had a dog anyone wanted to breed to. I don't know how
many times Ben was used by new folks, but I know there were a number of them.

If I judge, am I always "fair" in my judgement?
I certainly think so, but then, don't we all?

If I am a chairperson of a committee, do I try to bring in new people and
new ideas?
I try not to offer, but when asked, I do what I can. Lately I have not
been involved, other than on this List. And most of us are smart enough to
never read my posts. That is why I can be so outrageous and not get in
trouble.

What have I personally done to make my sport and my breed inviting to
newcomers?

I meet and greet all I can. I have dozens of pictures of German shepherd
on my office walls, lots of awards, and plaques. I invite everyone to the
shows, and a few come. If I see someone new, I always take them around to
meet the others that are there. It irritates those who wanted to be left
alone, and like Flower Boy, I enjoy that to no end.
