Thank you Lana for clarifying. I still think that it's not a good idea to
spend more money when we are trying so hard to keep expenses down. I do not
believe the dogs are in any danger, just like the agility dogs who were
running and making sharp turns on it at the agility trial were fine. The
artificial turf of today is a far cry from the old Astroturf, or even what
you buy at Home Depot or Lowes. I am sure it is fine.
The problem is this stuff gets out and those board members who are involved
don't seem to address it in a timely manner. What a wonderful idea for the
Executive committee, trying to do the right thing, to ask the membership via
survey, if they had shown on that type of footing before, and what they
thought of it.
Lew always talks about let's encourage, not discourage. I encourage you to
solicit the members' opinions in these matters. Think "bi-monthly Review",
which the board had to call an emergency meeting to rescind.
I am 100 percent for the club and I know being on a board is extra hard. On
the board positions I've held I've always felt it important to stay in touch
with my constituents and include them in the decision process when there is
such an impactful decision to be made.

There are exhibitors and board members concerned about the safety of the
footing for dogs and handlers. They have expressed that concern to me, as
acting President. I have been investigating all possible solutions,
including leaving all things as they are. Because this is a 3-day holiday
weekend, some of this has been difficult.
In all fairness, their concerns had to be addressed and all possible
changes in costs made known to the board. It would have irresponsible of
the board not to investigate these concerns.
In the meantime, let me bring all of you up to date:
Rumor - "I know the executive committee was addressing it without the
knowledge of the whole board..."
Truth - The Executive Committee was discussing it, because that is what the
Executive Committee should do. The entire Board has been apprised of all
of the information gathering I have been doing since last when the concerns
were first voiced to me. Any final decision will be the Board's.
Rumor - The football turf flooring will have to be pulled out at our
expense.
Truth - Actually the flooring is not currently installed, but will be by
the facility for the show, so there is no tearing out of the flooring. In
re-reading the facility contract (available to all members behind he
membership wall) was regarding any possible cost to the club in installing
and removing the football turf. The football turf rental fee was waived,
but the was a portion of the contract that spoke to a "set up" hourly fee
of $18.75. I don't know if this is applicable to us or not, but I have
asked Bill to please double check with the facility and get this in writing
for us.
Rumor - Cost for the sod will run between $18,000 to $20,000 dollars.
Truth - The prices that have been quoted to me at this point place the sod
cost between $4125 and $9900. I have two other vendors to give a price,
but they are closed for the holiday.
